Some patients are not quite ready for full surgical facial rejuvenation. A thread lift, often called a “lunchtime lift,” is a minimally invasive alternative to facelift surgery.
A thread lift diminishes jowling, redefines the neck line, and provides modest lift for features of the lower face. Results look and feel natural, and our San Francisco patients can combine treatment with other rejuvenation techniques for the best results possible. Just as importantly, a thread lift requires significantly less downtime than other surgical options, providing aesthetic improvement in a shorter time.
Benefits of a Thread Lift
A person’s facial features will tend to sag over time, and the skin may develop fine lines and wrinkles.
A thread lift restores features to their more youthful position and tightens the skin, diminishing the appearance of facial wrinkles. The benefits of treatment include:
- Reduced jowling. Drooping cheeks are a common sign of aging. By raising these features, a thread lift can create a more youthful appearance.
- An improved neck line. Treatment delineates the jawline for a firmer, younger aesthetic.
- An improved lower face. A thread lift can return features closer to their original position on the face.
The major advantage of a thread lift over facelift surgery is that it offers San Francisco patients immediate results without scarring or a lot of downtime. Many people combine the procedure with non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers and BOTOX®. This helps return fullness to facial features and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles.
Candidate for Thread Lift
Patients who have mild-to-moderate signs of aging around the jawline or the neck are the best candidates for a thread lift. During an initial consultation at Plastic Surgery Associates, we will perform a careful examination of these features to evaluate a patient’s needs. We’ll also take the time to explain the procedure and answer any questions about treatment.
In some cases, patients will have more prominent signs of aging or the type of excess skin that a thread lift cannot eliminate. Patients may also prefer treatment that provides longer-lasting benefits; a facelift can typically offer a longer period of rejuvenation. Plastic Surgery Associates will help patients explore these alternatives as part of their aesthetic consultation.
Thread Lift Recovery in San Francisco
Thread lift treatment takes place at our San Francisco practice and, in most cases, is performed in our med spa by a licensed physician assistant or nurse practitioner:
- The procedure takes about 45 minutes, and patients can return home on the same day.
- Patients receive a local anesthetic to numb the area. Some may choose to take an oral sedative for comfort.
- Biomedical threads are pulled gently through the skin to tighten it, restoring features to their original position and smoothing out wrinkles.
Our practice uses a combination of barbed and smooth threads for thread lift treatment. These threads should be fully absorbed by the patient’s body within 4-6 months. The treatment should stimulate collagen production, which can further improve the quality of the skin.
Most patients have 1-2 days of swelling and can return to non-physical work as soon as 24 hours after the procedure. Occasionally, there is some bruising. People with physically demanding jobs should take additional time off work.
Thread Lift Costs in San Francisco
The typical price range for a thread lift is $1,500 to $4,500. One of the factors that affect the cost is the number of threads that a patient requires. This usually ranges from four to ten threads, allowing us to target areas throughout the lower face that require rejuvenation.
As with all of our procedures, Plastic Surgery Associates will customize its approach based on the patient’s needs and goals. Following a thread lift, patients can expect to look more youthful, to have greater definition, and to enjoy a naturally attractive appearance.
